There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the Riverside Cemetery Chapel, 611 N. Center St., Marshalltown, with the Rev. She married Richard D. Balvin on Dec. 29, 1948 in Marshalltown. Effie grew up in Marshalltown and after high school, she attended nurses training and worked as a nurse in several nursing settings. She was an avid reader. She loved spending time with her husband and family in Florida especially sea shelling. She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Janet Wiskus and her husband, Wesley, of Clear Lake; one sister, Helen Goecke and her husband, Earl, of State Center; two brothers, John Tigges and his wife, Beth, of Marshalltown and Jim Tigges and his wife, Betty, of Ames; one brother-in-law, Donald Balvin and his wife, Doris, of Plano, Texas; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sisters, Eleanor Crabtree and Margaret Nusbaum. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N.
