Description	:	Last Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock marked the passing of one of Keystone's and Benton county oldest and foremost citizens, when Eggert Offt was called to his eternal rest. For weeks his condition had been regarded as very critical and his death was momentarily expected. Read More	Last Thursday afternoon at 4 o'clock marked the passing of one of Keystone's and Benton county oldest and foremost citizens, when Eggert Offt was called to his eternal rest. For weeks his condition had been regarded as very critical and his death was momentarily expected. He was first taken sick nearly 4 years ago but his rugged constitution baffled the disease until a short time ago when he began to grow worse.All that medical attention ad loving care of near and dear relatives could not avert the coming of the messenger of Death was done, but without avail. Eggert Offt was born Mar. 28, 1842 in Meldorf, Holestein, Germany and came to this country in 1865, locating in Davenport. He died at his home in this city Aug 21,1916, aged 74 years 5months and 3 days.In 1867 he was married at Walcott,Ia. to Miss Margaret Seeck and immediately thereafter the young couple came direct to Benton Co. and located on a farm just north of the presant townof Keystone where they resided till 1903, when they moved here, retiring from active work on the farm which was turned over to his sons, He was prominet in financial circles up to a few years ago,having been aofficer and director of the German State Bank of Keystone, and had large property interest in this and ajoining townships. Awife, 4 sons and 4 daughters are left to mourn the passing of a devoted husband and father all of them residents of Keystone and vicinity. They are William Offt, Mrs C F Seebrandt,Mrs Peter Eichmeyer, Mrs A.J.Jammer, Alfred Offt, Gustave Offt, Herman Offt and Miss Emma Offt, the latter who remained home with her father and mother.24 grandchildren and 0ne great grandson. The funeral services were held from the home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock Rev. C Christiansen of Dysart officiating and paying a beautiful tribute to the memory of the deceased. The casket was covered with the most beutiful of floral designs which spoke of Peace and Immortality . Burial was at Keystone cem.
