Thierolf, age 89, of Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly of Niobrara, Nebraska will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 17, 2015, at the Niobrara Lutheran Church in Niobrara, Nebraska. Reverend Beverly Rautenberg-Panko will officiate with burial in L'Eau Qui Court Cemetery in Niobrara. J. and Harriet Eileen Agnes Basta was born August 1, 1926, in Bloomfield, Nebraska to EdwardM. (Blakenfeld) Basta. She taught school in rural Knox County and attended Wayne State College before marrying Paul A. Thierolf on June 12, 1949. They were married 50 years until his death in 1999. (Blakenfeld) Basta. She taught school in rural Knox County and attended Wayne State College before marrying Paul A. Thierolf on June 12, 1949. They were married 50 years until his death in 1999. Eileen was the secretary-bookkeeper of Niobrara Public Schools for 30 plus years. She was a huge supporter of all the school sports and music events and an avid Husker fan. Eileen was a lifelong member of Niobrara Lutheran Church and a member of the choir. She taught Red Cross swimming lessons. She was a blood donor. Eileen pitched on the local women's softball team into her 60's. She enjoyed golf, fishing, boating, swimming, cards, reading, cats and the close knit community of Niobrara where she lived in her home until 2012. Eileen died Monday, September 21, 2015, at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf. She is lovingly remembered by her children, Susan Varilek of LeClaire, Iowa and David (Lynn) Thierolf of Ramona, California; grandchildren, Heather (Rob) Doe, Heidi (Jeff) Cadwallader, Josh (Jodie) Varilek, and Kelsey Custer; great-grandchildren, Jack and Sam Doe, Zach White and Lily Varilek; and nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Elaine Wagner; brothers and sisters-in-law; and a grandniece.
