Description	:	Eileen Ardath Behrens, age 78, of Waverly, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa. Eileen was born on March 7, 1938, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest Albert Frederick and Leona Marie (Zummak) Miehe. She was raised in Maynard, Iowa, where she was baptized in April of 1938, confirmed in 1952, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and graduated from the Maynard High School in 1956. Read More	Eileen Ardath Behrens, age 78, of Waverly, Iowa, died Tuesday, June 21, 2016, at Cedar Valley Hospice Home in Waterloo, Iowa. Eileen was born on March 7, 1938, in Oelwein, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest Albert Frederick and Leona Marie (Zummak) Miehe. She was raised in Maynard, Iowa, where she was baptized in April of 1938, confirmed in 1952, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and graduated from the Maynard High School in 1956. Eileen then attended Wartburg College in Waverly graduating in 1960, with her Bachelor of Science in Education Degree and later Drake University, Masters of Science in Education majoring in Special Education, graduating in 1974. On June 5, 1960, Eileen was united in marriage to Marvin Edward Dale Behrens at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Maynard and to this union four children were born, Jean Marie, Linda Sue, Mark Alan, and Susan Joyce. She started her teaching career in 1959, at Colesburg, Iowa, where she taught for one year then for one year at Schuler, Alberta, Canada. In 1966, she began her special education career in Winterset, Iowa. She continued her special education career teaching in Treynor, Iowa, Glenwood State Hospital School, Council Bluffs Public Schools, and AEA 7 at Waverly-Shell Rock and Nashua-Plainfield, retiring in 2003. Eileen was a member of: Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly, where she was active in Rebecca Circle, acting as chairman for several years; American Legion Auxiliary Unit 176 of Waverly, where she served as Third District president; Big Four Retired School Personnel Association; and West Central Senior Citizen Club in Maynard. Eileen enjoyed serving others, baking, sewing, and playing 500, however, what she enjoyed most was her family, especially her grandchildren. In February of this year Eileen's love of family encouraged her to take her first airplane ride, traveling to visit family in Seattle, Washington. Eileen's memory is honored by: her husband, Marvin of Waverly; four children, Jean (Robert) Turner of Ankeny, Iowa, Linda (Steve) Kenny of Anamosa, Iowa, Mark (Leah) Behrens of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Susan (Chad) Hunter of Keller, Texas; eight grandchildren, Daniel, Sarah, Nicholas, Rachel, Alexander, Samuel, Austin, and Emma; step-brother, Leon (Judy) Gruetzmacher; step-sister, Jean (Jim) Lipscomb; and step-sister-in-law, Doris Gruetzmacher. She was preceded in death by her parents and a step-brother, Bruce Gruetzmacher. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 24, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly, where family will greet friends from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M., with Waverly American Legion Unit 176 giving honors at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to the service at Redeemer Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Waverly with Pastor Nancy Larson officiating. Burial at Long Grove Cemetery in Maynard will follow the luncheon at the church. Memorials may be directed to Christian Crusaders, Bremwood, American Legion Auxiliary or donor's choice.
