Description	:	Eileen Katherine Batenhorst, daughter of Michael and Wanda (Zulkoski) Matya was born on January 7, 1930 near Cedar Rapids, Nebraska. She attended a country school west of Cedar Rapids for 2 years and completed her elementary education at St. Anthony's Catholic School. She graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1946. She was united in marriage... Read More	Eileen Katherine Batenhorst, daughter of Michael and Wanda (Zulkoski) Matya was born on January 7, 1930 near Cedar Rapids, Nebraska. She attended a country school west of Cedar Rapids for 2 years and completed her elementary education at St. Anthony's Catholic School. She graduated from Cedar Rapids High School in 1946. Following graduation she stayed home to take care of her mother until she passed away. Eileen then went to work for the Boone County Assessor's Office in Albion, Nebraska. She was united in marriage to Tom Batenhorst on May 17, 1974. She then worked for the Rainbow Farm Center in Cedar Rapids, Nebraska as a bookkeeper until they sold out. She retired at that time. Eileen enjoyed visiting with friends and relatives She was the first coordinator for the Senior Center. She was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church and belonged to St. Anthony's Altar Society. On Friday, November 19, 2010 she passed away at the Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward, NE. She is survived by her husband Tom Batenhorst of Cedar Rapids, NE; 3 sister-in-laws: Angela Matya of Cedar Rapids, NE; Mary Ballweg of Spalding, NE; Eileen Schmitz of Spokane, WA. 4 nephews: Dan, Jim, Tom and Fr. Bob Matya; 1 niece: Mary Ellen Matya Gordon. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Daniel Matya. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or your choice. Funeral services are 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, NE with Fr. Robert Matya and Mgsr. Ralph Steffensmeier officiating and burial in the St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at the church with a 7 p.m. wake service. Levander Funeral Home of Cedar Rapids, NE is in charge of arrangements.
