Description	:	GIBBON — Eileen M. Mayfield, 85, of Gibbon died Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, at CHI Health Good Samaritan in Kearney. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Faith United Methodist Church in Gibbon. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. O´Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home is serving the family. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. O´Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral Home is serving the family. Mrs. Mayfield was born July 20, 1931, in Central City to Gilbert and Ada (Campbell) Skow. In 1942 her family moved to Gibbon and she graduated from Gibbon High School in 1948. Eileen was united in marriage to Kenneth Mayfield in April of 1950. The couple made their home in Gibbon, where she worked as a beautician and also helped her husband at Kenny´s Grocery. The couple owned and operated the grocery store from 1949 until 1973. They also owned grocery stores in Wood River and Shelton. Mr. Mayfield preceded her in death on Jan. 9, 2008. She was a member of Faith United Methodist Church of Gibbon and American Legion Auxiliary. While her boys were young she was active with Cub Scouts. Eileen loved playing pinochle and always looked forward to her card nights with her close friends. Kenny and Eileen were also members of the Buffalo Campers Club and treasured their frequent camps in central Nebraska with other members. One of their favorite camping spots throughout the years was Branson, Mo. She also enjoyed crocheting, taking photographs and collecting grape glassware and various other antiques. Most of all, Eileen loved spending time with her family. She especially loved attending her grandchildren’s activities. She is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Kenneth (Alan) Mayfield of Gibbon and Kevin and Joni Mayfield of Wood River; two granddaughters, Kelsey Mayfield of Grand Island and Taryn Mayfield of Wood River; a grandson, Dylan Mayfield of Wood River; a brother, Dale Skow, and wife, Shirley, of Grand Island; and several nieces and nephews. Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a daughter, Diana Lynn.
