Eileen was born in Ute, Iowa, attending Danbury and Mapleton schools in her early education and high school in Ida Grove, Iowa. She passed away at her home on Tuesday, July 11, 2011, in Denison, Iowa, at the age of 83. Eileen was born in Ute, Iowa, attending Danbury and Mapleton schools in her early education and high school in Ida Grove, Iowa. She managed the Farmland lunch room for five years, worked as a nurse's aid at Eventide, and managed the Sunrise Campground in Storm Lake, Iowa, for many summers. She was united in marriage to Maylen LaRue Strong and to this union two children were born, Barbara and Steven. After Maylen passed away, she later married Wallace Auen in Storm Lake, Iowa, on April 12, 1951. They were blessed with the birth of five children: Connie, Patty, Sandy, Jim, and Michael. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother that lived a happy life. She loved children and babysat for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Activities she enjoyed included quilting, board games, camping, ceramics, flower gardening, and traveling to Texas. She was a baseball fan and followed the Chicago Cubs. She even played baseball in Ida Grove in her earlier years. Antiquing, garage sales, and remodeling houses were other favorite pastimes of hers. Eileen was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband, Maylen; two sons: Michael and Steven; and one sister, Betty. She is survived by her husband, Wallace; four daughters: Barbara; Connie and her husband, Randy; Patty and her husband Eddie; Sandy and her husband, Dave; and one son, Jim; sixteen grandchildren; twenty five great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one brother, Wilbur and his wife, Margery; four sisters: Leola; Deloris; Yvonne and her husband, Richard; and Joan, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held 2 P.M., Friday, July 15, 2011, at the Huebner Funeral Home in Denison. Brother Bruce Cordero officiated the service and graveside rites held at Oakland Cemetery in Denison. Musical selections played included "Amazing Grace, How Sweet The Sound," "Miracle Of Life," "See Yourself When All Is New," and "He Will Call." Honorary pallbearers were Logan Volkmann, Drew Volkmann, Luke Volkmann, Lane Volkmann, Zhane Frazier, Chad Gurney, Sam Auen, Ben Auen, and Nic Auen. Serving as pallbearers were Andrew Volkmann, Joseph Hudspeth, Brandon Yarnell, Nathan Yarnell, Jesse Volkmann, and Wade Gurney. The family invited everyone to Cronk's for fellowship and lunch. The Huebner Funeral Home in Denison was in charge of arrangements.
