Description	:	Elaine was born on July 22, 1919 in Vienna, SD, the only daughter of six children, to the late Matt and Frances (Wopat) Holida. She attended school in Vienna and Naples, SD and later moved to Watertown, SD. Elaine married Francis William Alwin on December 11, 1939 at Watertown, SD. The couple enjoyed forty-four years of marriage. Francis passed away in August of 1983. Read More	Elaine was born on July 22, 1919 in Vienna, SD, the only daughter of six children, to the late Matt and Frances (Wopat) Holida. She attended school in Vienna and Naples, SD and later moved to Watertown, SD. Elaine married Francis William Alwin on December 11, 1939 at Watertown, SD. The couple enjoyed forty-four years of marriage. Francis passed away in August of 1983. Elaine was employed at various businesses in Watertown, and assisted her husband when KWAT first went on the air in 1940. She was a long time bookkeeper for the Gamble-Skogmo-Tempo Stores in Watertown and retired in the late 1970s when she felt compelled to care for her husband at home during his long illness. Elaine was a life member of the Watertown Elks Lodge 838 (Elk's Wives & Widows), a very active member of the Catholic Daughters of America and St. Margaret's Circle of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Active in the community for many years, she served as a 4-H and Girl Scout youth leader, sharing her many creative talents with others. Elaine especially enjoyed canning, preserving, pickling and freezing the food from her large garden. As a special hobby, she nurtured and cared for a large collection of African violets and gladiolas. She looked forward to time spent fishing and boating at their summer cottage on Lake Kampeska, and enjoyed crocheting, making crafts, quilts, and other items to enter into competition at County and State Fairs where she won many blue ribbons. Elaine loved family gatherings, cooking, baking, and sewing for her grandchildren, and sharing flowers and vegetables from her garden with others. Elaine was a loving mom, grandma, great-grandma and a friend to many and will be lovingly remembered. She is survived by one son, William (Bill) and his wife, Judy Alwin of Marinette, WI; ten grandchildren: Kenneth (Michele) Alwin of Apple Valley, MN, Marie Goetz of Aberdeen, SD, Carlene (Paul) Cieslewicz of Cape Girardeau, MO, Sharon (Kevin) Rucker of Yankton, SD, Kimberly (Darrel) Baker of Porterfield, WI, Virginia (Darrin) LaQua of Watertown, SD, Michele (Terry) Fonder of Sioux Falls, SD, Christopher (Michelle) Alwin of Marinette, WI, Karri Alwin of Watertown, WI, and Keith Alwin of Marinette, WI; twelve great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gayle and his wife Beverly Holida of Chester, SD and Harold and his wife, Mary Holida of Cleburne, TX; a son-in-law, Elroy Goetz and many other relatives and close friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, three brothers: Les, Walt and Archie Holida, and one daughter, Jean Goetz in 1999. The family would like to express special thanks to Elaine's caregiver families at Prairie Crossings Assisted Living, and Golden Living Center for the gentle care they provided to our mother and grandmother.
