Description	:	Elaine Margaret McCarthy was born 28 August, 1927 in Battle Creek, Nebraska to Justin and Marie Jensen McCarthy. Her dad was a telegraph operator for the railroad, so the family moved around Northeast Nebraska a few times during her childhood. By 1935 the family has settled in Fremont, Nebraska. Read More	Elaine Margaret McCarthy was born 28 August, 1927 in Battle Creek, Nebraska to Justin and Marie Jensen McCarthy. Her dad was a telegraph operator for the railroad, so the family moved around Northeast Nebraska a few times during her childhood. By 1935 the family has settled in Fremont, Nebraska. Elaine was the youngest of three children with Gerald, her brother the oldest, followed by Helen (Ronin). In her school days, Elaine won a city-wide best penmanship award. Elaine graduated from Fremont Senior High School in 1946. Elaine married Robert V. Haxby 16 July 1951 in Stanton, Nebraska. Elaine and Bob settled and remained in Fremont, Nebraska. She worked several years as a clerk at Tiny Togs Department Store in downtown Fremont. She was active in PTA and won a lifetime membership and achievement award for her work. She and Bob won awards for their years of work serving at the Salvation Army at Christmas time. Elaine helped with a 10,000 chicken laying eggs operation for approximately 30 years. Elaine and Bob were married for 61 years. Elaine is survived by her son, John C. Haxby and wife Marie Bankson Haxby of Lincoln, Nebraska. Elaine is also survived by three grandchildren Jessica (Josh) Misner, their daughter, Kaya of Lincoln, Nebraska. Justin (Emily Rohe) Haxby, their children, Barret and Evelyn of Claytonia, Nebraska, and Anna (Irwin) Foxcroft of Omaha, Nebraska. Elaine was preceded in death by her husband, parents, brother, sister and great granddaughter, Effy E. Misner.
