Description	:	Elaine Scheid, 85, of Hazen, ND passed away with her family by her side on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen. Elaine was born on February 25, 1931, six miles northwest of Hazen to Rudolf and Lydia (Wiedrich) Mattheis. She grew up and attended country school northwest of Hazen. Read More	Elaine Scheid, 85, of Hazen, ND passed away with her family by her side on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at Sakakawea Medical Center, Hazen. Elaine was born on February 25, 1931, six miles northwest of Hazen to Rudolf and Lydia (Wiedrich) Mattheis. She grew up and attended country school northwest of Hazen. Elaine married Bennie Scheid on October 17, 1950 at Peace Lutheran Church and the couple were married for 62 years. Their marriage was the first at Peace Lutheran, along with Clara and Oswald Mattheis in a double ceremony. Elaine and Bennie farmed 12 miles northwest of Hazen until 1974. They built a house and moved south of Hazen before moving into Hazen for several years. In 2000, Elaine and Bennie moved north of Hazen, where the couple continued to farm and ranch until 2012 when they moved into a patio home in Hazen. Bennie passed away on July 8, 2013. Elaine moved into the Senior Suites in Hazen before moving to Elm Crest Manor in New Salem in 2014. Elaine was a vital role in all of the family’s business ventures. She was the bookkeeper for their trucking company, butcher shop, the New Salem Weigh Station and Scheid Livestock. Elaine was also very active in her church, teaching Sunday school for many years and participating in the Mary Circle women’s group, as well as different Bible studies. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, sewing, and gardening and especially loved her time with her grandchildren. Elaine is survived by two sons, Richard (Nancy) and Rick (Zola), both of Hazen; two daughters, Linda (Mark) Klein of Hazen and Mary Lou (Bret) Losey of Chugiak, AK; 13 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one brother, Raymond (Leona) Mattheis of Hazen; one sister, Betty (Herb) Hintz of Hazen; two sisters-in-law, Clara Mattheis of Hazen and Viola Scheid of Beulah; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bennie; her parents; six brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Herb (Mary) Scheid, Esther (William) Schwarz, Edward (Lorraine) Scheid, Oswald Mattheis, Alma (Harold) Mattheis and Walter Scheid.
