Description	:	Elaine Renae Collins, 55, of Sioux Falls, SD died Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Sanford USD Medical Center. A memorial service will be held at George Boom Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. Family and friends will gather for visitation at 1:00 pm. Saturday, September 3, and the Memorial will begin at 2:00 PM. Elaine, daughter of Burl and Dolores (Raymond) Collins, was born October 13, 1960 in Sioux Falls, SD. As a youth she belonged to the 4-H Club and enjoyed showing and riding horses. She rode Western and then English saddle and won a blue ribbon for high jumping. Elaine graduated from Washington High School in Sioux Falls. Her teachers there inspired her to play piano and cello. She played cello with the Sioux Falls Symphony Orchestra while she studied at Augustana College. She interrupted her studies to move to Dallas, Texas, where she applied for and got a full ride scholarship to Southern Methodist University and earned her Bachelor's Degree in Music. She continued her education at SMU and received her Master's Degree in Library Science. While there Elaine worked in the SMU Underwood Law Library. During this time she began the study and practice of martial arts. Through this interest she met her long-time friend, Jamie Smith. Following graduation, Elaine worked for the City of Irving Public Library in the accredited genealogy department. But being a musician at heart and as a natural intuitive teacher, she moved on into teaching at two Texas middle schools; and for the last ten years has been a middle school orchestra teacher/director in the Irving Independent School District. Musician that she was, Elaine composed music that won her honors in a Texas Orchestra Teachers Contest for her original composition, "Tangled Veils". The composition was published by Wingert-Jones Music Publishing Company. She also composed a piece that was used in the movie "Maggy". Elaine was a devout spiritualist. She was a proven advocate for taking time to respect her Buddhist beliefs and mantra meditations. She knew what it felt like to achieve through inspired dedication, and she taught her students how to know the difference between winning, giving back to life, and living well. She will be dearly missed for her wonderful sense of humor and true mentoring to all who had the privilege to know her. Grateful for having shared her life are her mother, Dolores Collins-Creek, Sioux Falls, SD; three siblings, Michael Collins and his wife Julie Thomas, Shannon Collins and her husband Gino Pinto-Elizondo and Taylor Collins, all of Sioux Falls, SD; her niece Carly Dockstader and nephews Ian and Leif Thomas; many loving cousins, a host of other relatives, and many friends both here and in Texas.
