Mr. Smith was born July 4, 1915, Clear Lake township, Steuben County, IN, the son of Carl and Loretta (Carpenter) Smith. In 1937 Elbert Smith married Virginia Mooschekian in California. To them were born two children, Nancy and Gerald Smith. The couple divorced in 1967. In 1968 Elbert Smith married Elaine Martinsen, she had a daughter, Kathi. Surviving Mr. Smith are his wife, Elaine; daughter, Nancy of Ohio; son, Gerald of California; stepdaughter, Kathi; step granddaughter, Sheri, and step great-grandchildren, Zachary and Allory, all of Washington. The memorial service for Elbert Smith was held on Monday, March 24, 2008 at St. Stephen the Martyr Church in Renton, Washington. A decade of the Rosary was recited at 10:45 a.m., with the memorial service following at 11:00 am. The officiant was Father Ed White, and readings were done by Michael Carney, a friend of the family; and James Bisenius, brother-in-law. The reception was held at step granddaughter, Sheri Chandler’s home in Renton, immediately following the service. The interment took place on Saturday, March 29, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Teeters Cemetery in Clear Lake, IN. The officiant was John Oberst.
