He was born Aug. 4, 1934 in Surry County to Elbert Asa and Lilly Pace Scott. Ray served in the U.S. Army as a specialist fourth class. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1953. Read More	LOWGAP, NC ~ Mr. Elbert Ray Scott, 68, the husband of Mrs. Doris Flippin Scott, died Monday, March 17, 2003, at Village Care of King. He was born Aug. 4, 1934 in Surry County to Elbert Asa and Lilly Pace Scott. Ray served in the U.S. Army as a specialist fourth class. He graduated from Franklin High School in 1953. He worked for the City of Winston-Salem and then the American Tobacco Co. He attended Surry Community College and graduated Suma Cum Laude from Appalachian State University. Ray retired from teaching with the Carroll County Virginia school system. He is survived by his wife, Doris Flippin Scott of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, John and Pam Scott of King; a daughter and son-in-law, Lilly Ann and Randy Ingram of King; grandchildren: Jacob, Chelsea and Michael Beamer and Meagan Scott; a step grandchild, Brandi Ingram; his mother, Lilly Pace Scott of King; a sister and brother-in-law, Mona and Dee Atkinson of Elon; and a brother and sister-in-law, Kemp and Diane Scott of Tustin, Calif. Other brothers and sisters-in-law include Eugene and Jerrie Flippin, Romey and Judy Flippin and George and Rozena Huizinga, all of Lowgap. Surviving uncle and aunts are John and Mae Pace, Alice Cox, Ann Boles and Nell Dickerson, all of Stuart, Va., and several nieces and nephews along with many more family and friends. Ray enjoyed the Blue Ridge Parkway, nature, hiking, books, drawing, music, designing and building, gardening and biking the New River Trail. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 20, 2003, at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy conducted by Mr. Richard Creed and Brother Wayne Williamson. Burial will follow at Flat Top Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Beulah. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Moody Funeral Home in Mount Airy, where his body will remain until the hour of the service.
