Description	:	ELBRIDGE S. GENTHNER Elbridge S. Genthner, 90, entered into rest on April 18 at Miles Memorial Hospital. Born at home in Nobleboro on June 24, 1916, he was the son of Frank and Lillian (Sprague) Genthner. Elbridge attended local schools and graduated from Lincoln Academy, class of 1935. Genthner, 90, entered into rest on April 18 at Miles Memorial Hospital. Born at home in Nobleboro on June 24, 1916, he was the son of Frank and Lillian (Sprague) Genthner. Elbridge attended local schools and graduated from Lincoln Academy, class of 1935. As a young man, he worked at Bath Iron Works; but for the majority of his working life he was self-employed as a woodsman throughout the region. His love of horses stayed with him all of his life, and he enjoyed pulling them at many state fairs. In 1954 he won the state championship at the Pittston Fair with his team, Pat and Mike, and took many blue ribbons over the years. Elbridge also enjoyed coon hunting with his red boned hounds, and rabbit and deer hunting with his beagles. He loved his garden, his Boston Red Sox, and his Boston Celtics. He was a very reserved gentleman, but when he spoke, people listened. Elbridge was predeceased by his loving wife, Dorothea (Rhodes) Genthner, and son, Deering "Kike" Genthner. He leaves his daughter, Irma Prentice and husband Richard of Damariscotta; foster son, Vyron Hathaway and wife Carol of Bowdoinham; sisters, Beatrice Winchenbach of Waldoboro, and Sylvia Collamore of New Harbor; grandchildren, Shane Creamer, Christine Gove, and Deering Genthner; seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to be with the family 6-8 p.m., Mon., April 23 at Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. Service to honor Elbridge 1 p.m., Tues., April 24 at the funeral home chapel, with Rick Newell officiating. He will be laid to rest with his wife and son at the Dunbar Cemetery Nobleboro. Arrangements are entrusted to Strong Funeral Home and Cremation Center, Damariscotta.
