Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) - Wednesday, February 16, 2005 BELLEVUE, Iowa - Elda Dorothy Elizabeth (Mangler) Beck, 93, of Bellevue, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 11, 2005, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport. Memorial services will be held at a later date at St. John's Lutheran Church, St. Donatus. At Elda's request, her body will be cremated. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The Runge Mortuary & Crematory, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements. She was born on June 28, 1911, on a farm in the St. Donatus area, daughter of William and Anna (Geopfert) Mangler. She was baptized in July 1911, in the St. Donatus area. She married John Philip Beck on Jan. 8, 1930. They ran Becks Clothing and Dry Cleaning in Preston for 34 years until John's passing in December 1962. Elda was a terrific lady and a wonderful role model whom everyone loved. She loved flowers, dogs and springtime. She enjoyed the view of the Mississippi with its eagles and boats from her home. Elda's great-great-grandparents, the John Feldermans, held Lutheran services in their home until the parish members decided to build a German Lutheran church in St. Donatus in 1854. Those left to honor her memory are a daughter, Mary Ann Beck, of Davenport; a sister, Florence, of Dubuque; and numerous nieces and nephews, of Dubuque. She also was preceded in death by an infant son in 1938; her parents, Bill and Anna Mangler; a brother, Alvin Mangler; and a sister, Josephine Smith. May they rest in peace. Memorials may be given to the Scott County Humane Society, the Jackson County Humane Society, St. John's Lutheran Church, Preston, and St. John's Lutheran Church, St. Donatus.
