Description	:	Eldean Arthur Aune was born June 5, 1943 in Yankton, South Dakota to Edla and Arthur Aune. He died peacefully at Yankton Avera Hospice on December 8, 2016. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He grew up on a farm in rural Volin and attended Walshtown and McFarland Elementary School and Volin High School. Eldean attended Yankton College, Augustana College and graduated from Vanderbilt Peabody in Nashville, TN. Read More	Eldean Arthur Aune was born June 5, 1943 in Yankton, South Dakota to Edla and Arthur Aune. He died peacefully at Yankton Avera Hospice on December 8, 2016. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He grew up on a farm in rural Volin and attended Walshtown and McFarland Elementary School and Volin High School. Eldean attended Yankton College, Augustana College and graduated from Vanderbilt Peabody in Nashville, TN. Eldean lived in Nashville and Murfreesboro, TN for over 25 years where he completed course work for a Master’s degree in English and was an Assistant English Professor. He worked for American Airlines and the Upper Room in Nashville before earning his RN degree. He then worked at the VA Hospital in Nashville before returning to his parental home due to health problems. Eldean was well-read and knowledgeable about a wide range of topics. He had a quick and dry wit. Once he started a story it usually took a wide and winding route before its conclusion. He wrote poetry earlier in his life and was currently writing haiku for fun. He had a love for all God’s creatures, especially birds. He liked to fish and garden and pickle his garden vegetables. He was famous for his beet pickles. He enjoyed the company of his pool playing and fishing buddies. Embracing the principles of the AA program gave quality and depth to his life. His 16 year sobriety anniversary was December 7, 2016. He was honored when fellow AA members presented him with his 16 year chip at the hospice on December 4, 2016. He valued his long time AA friendships and the support and encouragement he received from them. Eldean felt deeply indebted to his medical and mental health providers for all their care over the years. His family would like to thank all of them and the wonderful staff at Avera ICU, 4th floor and hospice for their professional, tender and loving care of Eldean and his family during the past two weeks. Eldean is survived by mother, Edla Aune and siblings Lorraine Gill (Eric), RuthAnn Libby (Bruce), David and W. Kent (Lupe) as well as nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Arthur Aune, brother, Olin and sister, June Orr.
