Bergman Bergman, Eldon H. 'Al' Bay City, Michigan Mr. Bergman went home to be with his Lord early Wednesday morning, December 24, 2003 at Bay Regional Medical Center, age 79 years. A lifelong resident of Bay City, he was born November 26, 1924 to the late Gustin and Olga (Anderson) Bergman. His wife of 44 years, Tesla Jane Breitenstein predeceased him on August 5, 1995. He was a veteran of WWII and served his country with the U.S. Navy. Al retired from the Display Advertising Department of The Bay City Times after 35 years of dedicated service. He was a lifelong member of the Evangelical Free Church serving as their Music Director for 28 years, a member of the MHSAA, a high school sports official for 20 years and Past Chairman of the Salvation Army Advisory Board, initiating and promoting the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony which begins the annual Red Kettle Drive. Al enjoyed being with and serving others, attending musical and sporting events and working on his lawn and garden. Surviving is his son, Kevin E. Bergman, a high school teacher in Tokyo, Japan; a sister, Anna Arlene (Howard) Hill of Stanton, MI; sisters-in-law, Marjorie Breitenstein and Doris Bergman; dear friend, Barbara Fleischmann and many nieces and nephews. Al was predeceased by three brothers: Vern, Fred and Melvin Bergman and a sister, Esther Bergman. The Funeral and Committal Service will be held Monday, December 29, 2003 at 11:00 a.m. from the Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Don M. Henderson will officiate. Private interment will take place in Floral Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call at the Squires Funeral Home on Saturday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday from 2:00 to 9:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday after 10:00 a.m. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Evangelical Free Church, The Salvation Army, RBM Ministries or a Charity of Donor's Choice.
