Description	:	Eldon L. Sheel, 59, of Moline, died Monday, September 19, 1988 at his home. He was in failing health during the past year. He was born on July 4, 1929 at Piedmont, to Emera F. and Opal Criger Sheel. The family moved to rural Howard where he attended Upper Paw Paw School. In 1937, the family moved to Moline where he attended school and graduated from Moline High School in 1948. From August 1948 until October 1949, Eldon served in the United States Navy. After returning from the service, he worked in the oil fields until 1952, when he joined... Read More	Eldon L. Sheel, 59, of Moline, died Monday, September 19, 1988 at his home. He was in failing health during the past year. He was born on July 4, 1929 at Piedmont, to Emera F. and Opal Criger Sheel. The family moved to rural Howard where he attended Upper Paw Paw School. In 1937, the family moved to Moline where he attended school and graduated from Moline High School in 1948. From August 1948 until October 1949, Eldon served in the United States Navy. After returning from the service, he worked in the oil fields until 1952, when he joined his father in business at the Moline Elevator. On February 14, 1955, he married Barbara J. Dexter at the Longton United Methodist Church. She survives at the home. In 1957, his brother, Harold joined the elevator business and together they operated it until 1976. Eldon sold the elevator in 1978 and has been an active independent oil producer until his death. He was a member of Meridian Lodge #126, AF&AM and Ladonia Chapter #243, O.E.S. both of Elk Falls, and the Moline United Methodist Church. He is survived by his wife, Barbara of the home; a son, Carl G.; a daughter Patti and husband Gill Chappuie of Independence; his mother Opal; brother Harold and sister Ruth Hisle, all of Moline; and two grandchildren, Tonya and Tyson Chappuie of Independence; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Emera. Funeral Services were held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 21, 1988 at the Moline United Methodist Church with Rev. LaDonna Carey officiating. Kimy Christie was the organist with Alan Rousselle singing "One Day At A Time" and "His Eye Is On The Sparrow." The hymn "The Old Rugged Cross was sung by the congregation. Active casket bearers were Bill Sheel, Rick Segalla, Marion Jacot, E. Mahlon (Stub) Durbin, Dwain Depew, and Harold Joe McAlister. the honorary casket bearers were Darrel Patteson, Frank Patteson, Roger Patteson, Tom Patteson, Ed Durbin and Pete Akers. Interment was held in the Moline Cemetery. A memorial has been established with the Moline United Methodist Church. The funeral arrangements were made with the Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
