Description	:	Eldon Morris Aho was born on July 15, 1928, in Lake Norden, SD, the son of Gunnar and Agnes (Hakala) Aho. He died on Thursday, August 23, 2007, at his residence in Brookings at the age of 79. Eldon grew up in Lake Norden, SD and received his education in the Lake Norden Public School. Read More	Eldon Morris Aho was born on July 15, 1928, in Lake Norden, SD, the son of Gunnar and Agnes (Hakala) Aho. He died on Thursday, August 23, 2007, at his residence in Brookings at the age of 79. Eldon grew up in Lake Norden, SD and received his education in the Lake Norden Public School. He was baptized and confirmed in the Finnish Lutheran Church. At a young age be began working with his father, Gunnar, and learned the electrical trade. In 1949, he married Beverly Schutjer in Brookings, SD. To this union were born four daughters. Eldon and Beverly resided in Brookings their entire 58 years of marriage. Eldon was employed for a time by the city of Brookings as an electrician lineman. In 1952, he began working at South Dakota State College as an electrician for the Physical Plant. During his 19 years at State, he continued his education in the expanding electronic'technical field, and worked in film production and educational media. Eldon was one of the first local employees hired by 3M Co. when the plant opened in 1971. He remained there until retirement in 1994, and held various positions through the years. At retirement he was Plant Engineering General Supervisor. His entire life he was a very ambitious, energetic person. He enjoyed hunting, and fishing around his beloved lakes at Lake Norden. He loved to travel, especially to beaches of any kind. His favorite place was his cabin at Lake Poinsett, and one of his greatest satisfactions was seeing his family enjoy it also. After retirement he and Beverly spent time in Texas in the winter. The rest of the year he enjoyed taking care of his house and cabin, drinking coffee with his friends and being the family "handyman." It was a common belief that "Grandpa can fix anything!" He was a member of First Lutheran Church, and was a former member of the Brookings Volunteer Fire Department, Elks Club and RSVP. He also served on advisory boards for several Vo-Tech schools in the area. He was a loving, giving, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Beverly of Brookings; his four daughters Jacalyn (Jay) Zwack of Port Charlotte, FL, Susan (John) Norberg of Sioux Falls, SD, Kim (Gary) Winterfeld of Brookings, Gail Aho Collins of Brookings; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren: two sisters, Lillian Swanson of Sioux Falls, SD, and Violet Simmons of Annaheim, CA. Eldon was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Carl, one sister, Mae Jensen and one granddaughter, Aimee Collins. Funeral Service: 2:00pm, Monday, August 27, 2007 First Lutheran Church, Brookings, SD Rev.
