Description	:	Son of Theo & Grace Swale Crandall Veteran of World War 2 Eldon Milo Crandall, 84, of Waverly, died at his home Tuesday, December 1, from complications of COPD. He was born September 3, 1925 in Polo, Missouri, son of Theo and Grace Swale Crandall. On July 27, 1946 he married Dorothy Underwood and they later divorced. On August 10, 1958 he married Florence Osmundson at Big Canoe Lutheran Church, rural Decorah. Mr. Crandall graduated from school in West Uinion in 1944, then served in the U.S. Army in Italy, France, and Germany with the 12th Armored Division known as 'The Hellcats'.... He was born September 3, 1925 in Polo, Missouri, son of Theo and Grace Swale Crandall. On July 27, 1946 he married Dorothy Underwood and they later divorced. On August 10, 1958 he married Florence Osmundson at Big Canoe Lutheran Church, rural Decorah. Mr. Crandall graduated from school in West Uinion in 1944, then served in the U.S. Army in Italy, France, and Germany with the 12th Armored Division known as 'The Hellcats'. Prior to starting his insurance career, he worked for the Decorah and West Union newspapers and as store manager for McClellan Five and Dime in Jackson, Alpeana, and Holland, Michigan. He was employed by Farm Bureau Insurance Company for 10 years, then in 1978 became a field agent for Bankers Life of Iowa (now Principal Financial Group). He graduated from the American College of Life Underwriters as a Charter Life Underwriter (CLU) and as a Chartered Financial Consultant (CFC). He retired from the insurance business in 1991. He was a member of Big Canoe Lutheran Church, rural Decorah, Toastmaster in Decorah, and the Waverly American Legion Post 176. He was also very active in the Boy Scouts of America where he was scout leader in West Union, Oelwein, and Waverly. Survived by his wife; two sons, Marshall (Meredith) of California, and Erik (DeeAnn) of Janesville; one daughter, Kristin (Ken) Sherman of Des Moines; six grandchildren, Mary, Thor, Michaela, Melinda, Marcella, and Marcus; two great-grandsons, Nathaniel and Brayden; five brothers, Dean (Norma) of Davenport, Ronald (Donna) of Osage Beach, Missouri, Bruce (Marge) and Larry (Dianne), both of West Union, and Dan (Sue) of Oelwein; one sister, Carolyn (Robert) Russell of Ames; and several nieces and nephews. Preceeded in death by one daughter, Elise; and one son, Phillip. Services 2:00 p.m. Monday at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, followed by military honors by Waverly American Legion Post 176. His body was creamated and private burial was held in Big Canoe Cemetery, rural Decorah at a later date. Public visitation Sunday at the funeral home, with family present from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Visitation also for an hour before services Monday. Eldon's enjoyments included stamp and coin collectiong, fishing, camping, Bible study, and carpentry.
