Eleanor was born on December 31, 1920, to Glenn and Retta (Springer)Foreman on their homestead in Mitchell. As the daughter of pioneers, her early life was not easy; her birth occurred on the same day as her fathers funeral. He died a young man at 25 of appendicitis. Her mother remarried in 1928, and her husband, Glenn William Elliott, adopted Eleanor and her older sister, Arlene. She attended school in Mitchell, Neb. graduating in 1938. She began her college years at Stephens College in Columbia, Mo. During her time at Stephens, she met Ruth Ganz, who introduced her to her brother, Dale, whom she would later marry. In 1940, she transferred to the University of Nebraska and joined the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She graduated from UNL in 1942 with a degree in Art Education. Following graduation, she served as a regional coordinator for the Thetas, traveling throughout the Midwest. She began her teaching career in Union, Neb. while her husband was serving in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. Upon his return, they moved to Lincoln where she lived her entire adult life, with the exception of a two year hiatus in Iowa City, Iowa where her husband was earning his doctorate in vocal music. She resumed her teaching career in 1964 and taught junior high art in the Lincoln Public Schools until her retirement in 1985. She was active in the Lincoln Junior League and participated in many civic and social organizations during her life. Her sons, Charles, Richard and Douglas remember her as a caring mother and the consummate hostess. She entertained the extended family as they attended the University of Nebraska and she held many dinner parties at their home in south Lincoln. Eleanor was a long time member of the Lincoln Country Club, where she enjoyed playing golf with her soul mate and husband, Dale, to whom she was married for fifty years. She continued playing golf into her late eighties. During her life she enjoyed countless concerts, symphonies, and operas. She also spent many Sundays in the pews of the St. Paul United Methodist Church listening to her husbands choir which included her children, nephews and nieces and a multitude of life-long friends, as participants. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Dale. She is survived by her siblings, Arlene Buffington of Mitchell, William Elliott of Goleta, Calif., Clela Duemler of Madison, Wis. and Donna Swaim of Tucson, Ariz. She is also survived by her sons Charles of Lincoln, Richard and his wife Elizabeth of Wilmette, Ill. and Douglas and his wife Pamela of Lincoln, and by grandchildren Holly Christman and her husband Jeff, Melissa Ganz-Kudalcek and her husband Matt, Joel Ganz and his wife Hillary; Kristi, Carl, Ellie, Sarah, Claire and Rachel Ganz; and Andrew, Stephen, and Nancy Ganz.
