Description	:	The funeral for Eleanor Blegen, 97, of Bismarck, formerly of Leeds, was held at the Leeds Lutheran Church. Interment was in the church cemetery. She died March 26, 2004 at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in Bismarck. The Nelson Funeral Home of Leeds was in charge of arrangements. Eleanor Helen Clarissa Blegen was born Sept. 8, 1906 to Olaus and Amanda Egge Ruen in Glenwood Township, Winneshiek County, near Decorah, Iowa. She was reared there, attended school in Decorah and graduated from Decorah High School. She taught at the Lee and Pagan rural schools in and around Decorah. She also kept house for her brother, Vernon for a short time and took care of her parents. She also was a nurse's aide at the Decorah Hospital and later at the Good Samaritan Center in Devils Lake. She married Joseph Olin Blegen Nov. 30, 1950 in Decorah. They made their home on a farm near Leeds. He died Jan. 21, 1984. In 1985 she moved into Leeds, living there until the fall of 1994 when she moved to Bismarck to be near her niece, Dontee Adams and family. She became a resident of the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in December of 1996. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith Oct. 13, 1906 and confirmed on Oct. 16, 1921. She was a member of the Leeds Lutheran Church and also participated in activities at the Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center. Survivors include a brother, Otto Ruen and a sister-in-law, Lila Ruen, both of Decorah, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Lawrence and Sophie Ruen, Olgar Ruen, Adolph and Harriet Ruen, Vernon Ruen and Laila Ruen.
