Description	:	Eleanor Lawrence, age 92, of Valley City, ND, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008 at Maryhill Manor Nursing Home in Enderlin, ND. Eleanor Josephine Amundson Lawrence was born December 13, 1915 at Estelline, South Dakota the daughter of Olaf C. and Bertine T. (Anderson) Amundson. Eleanor was baptized and confirmed at The Congregational Church in Toronto, South Dakota. She grew up and graduated from high school in Estelline, South Dakota. Eleanor Josephine Amundson Lawrence was born December 13, 1915 at Estelline, South Dakota the daughter of Olaf C. and Bertine T. (Anderson) Amundson. Eleanor was baptized and confirmed at The Congregational Church in Toronto, South Dakota. She grew up and graduated from high school in Estelline, South Dakota. After graduating from high school Eleanor worked in Michigan for one year. Eleanor married Leslie G. Lawrence on December 7, 1935 at Cresco, Iowa. The family lived at Camby, Minnesota where they farmed until 1943. They then moved to Toronto, South Dakota and later to Estelline, South Dakota. In 1948 they moved to Hayti, South Dakota where they owned and operated a restaurant. They owned the restaurant until 1953, at which time Eleanor cooked for a road construction crew and Leslie worked in road construction. Leslie died July 21, 1960. Eleanor moved to Valley City then to be closer to her son Duane who was attending Valley City State University. She later moved to Watertown, South Dakota where she worked a Memorial Hospital until she retired in 1978. Eleanor moved back to Valley City after she retired. Eleanor was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City, The Watertown, South Dakota Eagles Auxiliary. She was a forty year member. She also loved to play pinochle, crochet, embroider, and bake. Eleanor loved to watch her game shows, The Price is Right, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune just to name a few. She also enjoyed watching Lawrence Welk and soap operas. Eleanor is survived by her children, LaVonne (Ken Merkes) Lawrence, Valley City, ND, Duane (Carol) Lawrence, Grand Junction, Colorado and Marie Albertson, Canton, South Dakota, one brother, Marvin Amundson, Clear Lake, South Dakota, one sister Darlene Kinney, Arlington, Texas, her grandchildren, Steve (Liz) Wurtz, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Glenda (Gerald) Albertson, Sheridan, Wyoming, Dee (Mark) Franta, St. Louis, Missouri, Dana (Mike) Potter, Phoenix, Arizona, Carla Lawrence, Grand Junction, Colorado, Tennille (Josh) Esch, Valley City, ND and Ember (Lane) Bartels, Canton, South Dakota, sixteen great grandchildren and seven great-great grandchildren. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie, her parents, two sisters, three brothers and one grandson and one granddaughter. A memorial service was held Monday, April 7, 2008 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery at Estelline Saturday, April 19. Lerud-Johnson-Schuldt Funeral Home in Valley City is in charge of arrangements.
