Wood, 92, of Norfolk will be at Christ Lutheran Church, Pierce, on Tuesday with burial in the Stanton City Cemetery. Eleanor died Thursday, May 7, 2009, at Faith Regional Health Services. She was born March 25, 1917, on a farm in Stanton County, the daughter of Herman Kuester and Alma (Renner) Kuester. She was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church at rural Howells May 6, 1917, and confirmed July 20, 1930, at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, rural Wisner. She attended District 28, Stanton County, and high school. She was married to Howard W. Wood July 15, 1935. He passed away Sept. 30, 1995. In 1936, the family moved to California to find work. In 1946, they moved back to Nebraska to a farm. In 1954, they bought the Allen Sharp News Stand and operated it as the Wood Book Store at Stanton for 33 years. She retired in 1987 when they closed the book store and moved to Pierce in 1993 She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid, Sunnyside Community Club and Stanton Community Club. She was a present member of Christ Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid at Pierce. She is survived by two sons and one daughter, Lonnie, Donald and Betty; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Howard and brother Earl Kuester.
