Description	:	Eleanore R. Hitchman, 89, Blencoe, Iowa, left this earth Wednesday, October 12, 2011 while at Pleasant View Care Center, Whiting. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 17, 2011 at Blencoe United Church of Christ with Pastor Linda Boggs officiating. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery at Blencoe. Visitation will be 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Sunday at Rush Family Care Service, Onawa, Iowa. Eleanore Ruth (Wolfe) Hitchman was born on a farm outside Ord, Nebraska on May 3, 1922, the oldest of five children born to Harry and Ruth (Jared) Wolfe. She attended country school until she entered high school in Ord, graduating in 1939. She attended post-graduate courses at Ord for another year before entering nurse's training at Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, NE where she graduated in 1944. She married her high school sweetheart, C. Edwin Hitchman, on April 26, 1944 at Annapolis, MD. Eleanore was a member of the Blencoe United Church of Christ where she served as a Sunday School Teacher, a Deaconess, and member of the Women's Fellowship. She was a past president of Chapter EF, P.E.O. Although Eleanore did not work outside of the home as a registered nurse after her first child was born, she kept her license active until she turned 65. She was well known for her community service in Blencoe and with the Cub and Boy Scouts. She developed the bumper sticker saying for Blencoe, "You Are Among Friends in Blencoe", and she was. She volunteered to give words at the annual spelling bees at West Monona Schools for many years. She loved books, art and music. She loved flowers and shared them with everyone. She was also known for her variety of hats. After being diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease, she had been living at Pleasant View in Whiting, IA for the past few years, where she was treated with love and respect. She is survived by her five children, Judith Hitchman of Norwalk, IA, Charles E. Hitchman II (Cindy) of Blencoe, James Hitchman (Barb) of Madison, WI, Rebecca Langren (D. R.) of Longmont, CO and Lucinda Sperry (John) of Norwalk; ten grandchildren, Bryant Mock of Norwalk, Stacey Miller (Chris) of Onawa, Sonja Bromander (Ted) of Hornick, IA, Andrew Hitchman of Chicago, IL, Chris Mullenberg of Iowa City, IA, T. J. Hitchman (Jean) of Cedar Falls, IA, Adam Hitchman of Chicago, Dan Hitchman of Chicago, and Joslyn and Ella Sperry of Norwalk; seven great grandchildren, Austin and Alexis Bromander, Jake and Joshua Miller, and David, Julia and Penelope Hitchman; a sister, Arlene Cahill of Lincoln, NE; a brother, Duane Wolfe (Karen) of Phoenix, AZ and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, C. Edwin Hitchman and two sisters, Viona Miles and Maxine Kean. Obituary & Photo are from the Rush Family Care Service
