Griffin, living 4 miles west of Osceola, departed this life July 30, 1905. Mrs. Griffin was born in Washington Twp., Clarke county, Iowa, Oct. 1, 1861. She was the daughter of F. J. and P. C. Barrows. In early life she was taken to Sunday School and church by her good Christian parents. When quite young Mrs. Griffin became a S. S. worker and teacher. She was converted under the labors of Rev. T. J. Striker, the winter of '76 and '77 and united with the M. P. church of Pleasant Ridge. Her church membership was held at Pleasant Ridge church until after her marriage, when her membership was transferred to the Osceola M. P. church, of which she was a member in good standing at the time of her death. Hers was a beautiful Christian life, though her work has been hindered by disease. For several years she had been able to attend church services. She was united in marriage to A. M. Griffin. Nov. 11,1879, when she and her husband went to housekeeping on the farm, where she lived happily till her removal to the Home above. There was born to this union six children, five sons and one daughter, all of whom were present in the last moments of their mother's life and did what they could to alleviate her suffering. Her mother, Mrs. P. C. Barrows, and one sister, Mrs. Geo. Robinson, were also present. The only other sister, Mrs. Ella Burchell, of Illinois, was not able to be with her in her last moments but came for the funeral. Mrs. Griffin was conscious that the end was near a week before she died. She told her husband that she would not be with him but one more Sunday. She was conscious till in a few hours of her death and had no fears for the future. And thus the sweet life went out and home is vacant a good wife and mother, but her influence will live. She leaves to mourn her loss a husband and six children, a mother, two sisters and a host of other relatives and friends. The large concourse of sympathetic friends who attended her funeral shows the respect and love with which she was held. May the God of all grace sustain the bereft.
