Description	:	Son of Gustav & Clara (Fickel) Tonniges. He attended rural school District 11 in Polk County, Immanuel Lutheran School and graduated from Kramer High School in 1938. After high school, Elgin was employed by Scott's Five and Dime Stores in Columbus, Nebraska, Atlantic, Iowa, and Chicago, Illinois. While living in Chicago, Elgin was drafted into the United States Army Air Corp., serving from February 25, 1942, through December 1, 1945, when he was honorably discharged. Elgin married Elaine Martin on February 20, 1954, at St. Luke's United Methodist Church in David City, Nebraska. They were parents of two sons, Mark and Duane. Elgin was a long time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church where he was an Elder and Trustee. He was a life member of the American Legion Hartman Post 84. Elgin was an avid bowler and was a member of the Hartman Post 84 team and the Lutheran League team for many years. He served on the Polk County Fair Board for 18 years. Elgin is survived by: Wife - Elaine Tonniges of Columbus, NE Son - Mark Tonniges of Winside, NE Son - Duane (Linda) Tonniges of Columbus, NE Grandsons - Grant Tonniges and Jacob Tonniges of Columbus, NE; Tyson Tonniges of Wahoo, NE Granddaughters - Lacy Tonniges of Columbus, NE; Tencie Tonniges of Wahoo, NE Nephew - Rodney Miller of Kettering, OH Several other nieces and nephews Brothers-in-law and Sisters-in-law - Kate Martin, Herman and Jean Hansen, and Jackie Mahlin all of David City, NE; Jim and Donna Lightbody of Lincoln, NE; Maxine Riddle of Charlottesville, VA/ and Jess Miller of Dayton, OH Elgin was preceded in death by: Parents - Gustav and Clara Tonniges Sister - Shirley Miller
