Read More	CANN, ARTHUR 'ELGIN' Elgin Cann passed away at his home on Old Mail Road in Meaford on Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at the age of 87. Born on December 30th, 1933 in Meaford, ON, Elgin was the youngest son of the late Morris and Hannah (nee Patterson) Cann. He was predeceased by his 8 siblings; Jesse, Mary, Vi, Wilma, Verna, Blanche, Reg, and Irene. Elgin will be dearly missed and forever loved by his wife of 65 years, Marlene (nee Hay) Cann. He was the loved father of Wendy Cann (Gord), Sandra Cann, Brenda Murray (late Keith), and Todd Cann (Cheryl). He will be remembered fondly by his grandchildren; Cassie (Matt), Elicia (Cam), Dylan, and Carter. Elgin was a part of the agriculture industry his whole life. He started with apple orchards, and then moved to beef cattle, then settling in to run the dairy farm. He was born and raised on the Old Mail Road, where he would later settle on his own farm with his wife to raise their four children. While busy with the farm, the family always made time to visit their cottage in Shawanaga where many memories were made. A collection of trophies from his time bowling in Thornbury adorn the shelves. Elgin always loved the social aspect of getting off the farm, and spent a lot of time on the curling sheet as well. When at home, he loved his scratch tickets and was uniquely lucky with them. He and Marlene would pass time playing Yahtzee, exercising their competitive sides. His evenings often looked the same: a rum and coke, and an evening drive to check on the neighbourhood, either in his beloved RTV, or with Marlene as the driver. To his final year, he loved to get out and work the fields in his Massey tractor. He loved all aspects of rural life. He bred and raised Belgians, and broke horses to drive in the buggy. He did some carpentry work, and each of his kids still have pieces that he crafted in their homes. Elgin also got out nearly every year to hunt his land, and to gather for the social hour as dusk set in. A private family graveside service will be conducted at Thornbury-Clarksburg Union Cemetery.
