Just a week before his death he became sick with the flu and pneumonia set in and he died at 3 a.m. Friday morning with his wife, sons, Harry and George and daughter, Mrs. Elmer Binning at his bedside. Another daughter, Mrs. Cora Quimby came Friday afternoon and remained for the funeral. Eli Martin Grim was born at Richmond, Ohio on May 10, 1851 and grew to manhood there, taking up as his vocation, farming. He was united in marriage on July 24, 1879 to Sarah Jane Maple, also of Richmond, Ohio. To this union 6 girls and 5 boys were born, 2 girls and 1 boy dying in infancy. Another daughter, Eva passed away in Oregon last October. Two years ago they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. Mr. and Mrs. Grim came to Knox county, Nebraska in the spring of 1888 and rented a farm 2 miles southwest of Creighton, now known as the Montgomery place and they continued farming around this vicinity until last spring, when they retired and came to live in our city. During these years Mr. Grim earned the respect and admiration of all with whom he came in contact. He was a hard worker, honest in all his dealings and a genuine Christian gentleman. In a quiet way he practiced his religion and walked before his fellowmen, a true example of integrity and righteous character. He united with the Methodist Episcopal church in Richmond, when 18 years of age and was transferred to the Creighton Methodist church on Easter Sunday, April 1, 1888 and remained in continuous membership 44 years. He took an active part in church activities and was at every service unless his health would not permit. He was the oldest member of the Bible class. About a year ago Mr. Grim had a bad sickness and never fully recovered from its effects and has been failing from that time on. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife; four sons, Stanley of Omaha, Oscar of Bussey, Iowa, George of Laurel, Harry of Bloomfield; three daughters, Mrs. Cora Quimby, Wisner, Nebr., Mrs. Elmer Binning, Osmond and Mrs. Rossa Davis, Alberta, Canada; 25 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren, together with a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted on Sunday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. from the Methodist Episcopal Church with the pastor Rev. William E. Wilson in charge. Appropriate words eulogizing the life of the deceased were spoken from the text Gen. 25, verse 8, which were very comforting to the family. Burial was made in Greenwood Cemetery.
