Death took place just as night dropped her curtain over the globe, on Saturday, Sept. 3,1881. Deceased was born in Perry county, Ky., Feb. 2,1817, and was, consequently, at the time of his death, aged 61years, six months and twelve days. On the death of his parents he removed to Indiana, and was united in marriage to Mary Pence, of Marion county, March 15, 1837. The partner of his joys survives, a stricken widow. No children ever blessed their union. In 1838 the pair removed to Fulton county, where they have constantly lived ever since. Mr. Russell united with the M. E. church some thirty years ago, and remained a faithful member of that communion until the hour of his death. He was no zealot, but a living epistle of the homely virtues taught by the sacred text. His home was an inn, at which the preaching brethren were' entertained, his ideas of hospitality, shared by his good wife, being those derived from his generous Kentucky training.- An honester man than Eli Russell God never made. Exact in all his dealings, he owed no man a dollar, nor suffered his word to fall to the ground in any respect. A few years ago he removed to town in order to obtain the relief from labor and care demanded by his advancing years. Here he made scores of acquaintances, who will miss his kindly visage and friendly salutations.
