Funeral Services will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 30, at Oak Ridge Baptist Church with the Rev. Ted Combs, the Rev. Roger Jennings, and the Rev. Keith Foster officiating. The body will be placed in the Church at 1:30 p.m. Burial with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1142 will be in the Church cemetery. The family will receive at Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home from 6 until 8 p.m. on Friday night. Mr. Johnson was born in Wilkes County, May 28, 1926, to Hub and Bertha Porter Johnson. He was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Army during World War II and received the purple heart and two bronze stars. He was retired from the NC Department of Transportation. In addition to his parents, Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by three sons, Lonnie Roger Johnson, Douglas Edward Johnson and Oliver Glenn Johnson; two sisters, Elsie Howell and Dora Mae Johnson; four brothers, Woodrow Johnson, Robert Johnson, Gene Johnson; and his twin brother, Howard Johnson. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Mary Nell Richardson Johnson of the home; one daughter, Mary Christine Johnson Brewer and husband, Larry of Hays; four sons, Danny Joe Johnson and wife, Marilyn of Hays, James "Steven" Johnson and wife, Joann of North Wilkesboro, Hobert Curtis Johnson and wife, Marilyn of Millers Creek, Dennis Keith Johnson of Winston-Salem; one sister, Martha Johnson Wood of Hudson, OH; five brothers, Isaac Johnson and wife, Sue of Ronda, David Johnson and wife, Lillie Mae of McGrady, Clyde Johnson of Statesville, Jonah Johnson and wife, Frances of Hays, Claude Johnson and wife, Ruby of North Wilkesboro; eight grandchildren, Tonya Johnson, Chris Brewer, Clint Johnson, Janessa Patrick, Blake Johnson, Megan Johnson, Casey Joe Johnson, Wesley Johnson; seven great grandchildren, Brittany Batten, Peyton Johnson, Faith Brewer, Emily Brewer, Seth Johnson, Tiara Johnson, Chase Johnson. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Oak Ridge Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, 2046 Oak Ridge Church Road, Hays, NC 28635.
