Bartlett, former resident of this community, and a Veteran of the Civil War, were brought here Friday afternoon from Waverly for interment in Greenwood Cemetery. Funeral services were held at Koch Funeral Home in Waverly on Friday, Feb. 9 at 1:30 p.m. Elias Bartlett, son of Zenos and Phoeba Bartlett, was born June 14, 1845, near Wabash, Indiana, and passed away at his home in Waverly Feb. 7, 1934, at 6:45 a.m. at the age of 88 years, 7 months and 22 days. (Note: He had acute cholecystitis for several days and myocarditis for several months.) He was one of a family of twelve children, ten boys and two girls: Norman, Elias, Ellen, Emma, John, twins Franklin and Francis, Lincoln, Milton, Elmer, Leonard and Reuben. Mr. Bartlett served in the Civil War, enlisting when very young and serving until the end of the war as a member of Company H. 36th Illinois Infantry. He came to Iowa from Illinois in 1867 and settled at Pearl Rock in Chickasaw County, and for many years, resided in this community. Mr. Bartlett was the last charter member of the Geo. W. S. Dodge Post, Grand Army of the Republic. His parents, four brothers and two sisters preceded him in death. His wife, who was Mary Medders, preceded him in death many years ago. He was the father of four children, three dying in infancy, and Arthur, who passed away March 17, 1930. Survivors are his brother, Elmer, who has been with the deceased the past few years; John of Geno Junction, Wisconsin; Milton of Aberdeen, SD; Leonard of Waterloo; and Reuben of Nashua.
