Description	:	From "The Descendants of John (ca 1668-1751) and his wife Mary, of Woburn and Oxford Massachusetts and Windham County, Connecticut" by Abbott Lowell Cummings (Newbury Street Press 2001), p. 279: Elijah Comins was a farmer, living near his brother, Benjamin V. Comins, according to the 1850 census for Eddington. In his manuscript family genealogy he writes of himself that he possessed a "love of books and study, it being his practice during the short term of winter school to sleep the first part of the night and again in the morning, but spend the middle of the night,... In his manuscript family genealogy he writes of himself that he possessed a "love of books and study, it being his practice during the short term of winter school to sleep the first part of the night and again in the morning, but spend the middle of the night, before his fathers large fire place, when all was quiet, in deep and earnest study." He received a certificate for teaching "in his own town at the age of 20 y. He taught winters, for seven or eight years, some before and some after marriage. He settled and always lived on the old homestead having the care of his parents in their old age. He at different times, held nearly all the different offices in town, and sereved [sic] on the school committee or as supervisor for over twenty years, and once [1855] represented his class in the Legislature. He was a thorough temperance man and an outspoken Universalist ..."
