Hardin Sr. was born 2 Dec 1801 in Siam, Carter, TN to William Hardin and Mary Ann Nave from the Hardin family bible. He had 19 children by three wives. Elijah was apparently a colorful and popular figure of his day, working as a farmer, a blacksmith, a sheriff from 1840-1842, and a Baptist lay minister in his later days. He did NOT serve in the Civil War due to his age. He was divorced by his first two wives and married his third wife when he was 68 and she 21. He is definitely buried in this cemetery in an unmarked grave, probably near the old cedar tree. Clara Heaton Hardin Russell was buried 27 Oct 1925 in the Stoney Creek Cemetery (Death Record). Stoney Creek is a community in Carter, TN. But, there is no Stoney Creek Cemetery. Clara's burial is memorialized as Find A Grave Memorial# 158801211, but the memorial is not credible.
