He was born in Randolph county, North Carolina, September 15, 1815. At the age of 4 years, he, with his parents and family, moved overland to Morgan county, Indiana, settling on White River bottom, twelve miles from Indianapolis. At the age of nine years a widowed mother and five small children were left depending upon his industry and labor for supplying... Read More	Thanks to Contributor Sheryl Stookey, #4770491 for the following: From the Osceola Sentinel, Thursday, April 16, 1885: Died, at Andalusia, Rock Island county, Illinois, March 25, 1885, of heart disease, Elijah Dollarhide, aged 70 years. He was born in Randolph county, North Carolina, September 15, 1815. At the age of 4 years, he, with his parents and family, moved overland to Morgan county, Indiana, settling on White River bottom, twelve miles from Indianapolis. At the age of nine years a widowed mother and five small children were left depending upon his industry and labor for supplying the wants of the family, and for improving the 80-acre and claim which his father had pre-empted. He continued with his mother until his majority, when he married Sarah Sells, and in the fall of 1836, in company with his father-in-law’s family moved overland to Muscatine county, Iowa, where in 1837 he located, by pre-emption, an 80-acre claim, near Harper?, Iowa. In 1858 he moved with his family to Bollinger county, Missouri, where he remained until April 1861, when because of rebellion threatening the family, excepting the older daughter (married) found their way overland to Henderson county, Illinois where he remained but a short time when he returned to Muscatine county, Iowa. In 1874 he, with his wife returned to Morgan county, Indiana, where he remained until February 1877 when he came to Osceola, Iowa. During his stay in Osceola he made many friends who will remember him as possessing all the better traits of human character.
