Dennis Held Sunday.--Comrades Take Part in Obsequies. ----The funeral of Judge E. G. Dennis, who died last Thursday morning, was held at the Baptist church Sunday afternoon, the services being conducted by Rev. Tillery. Comrades of the old veteran officiated as pallbearers. The attendance was large, the church accommodating only a portion of those who gathered to pay last respects. After the church services the remains were conveyed to the Union cemetery and laid to rest in the family lot. ----Elijah G. Dennis was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, July 20, 1828, and died at the age of 80 years, 8 months and 18 days. While still small he moved with his parents to Belle Center, Ohio, and here in 1858, he was married to Lydia E. Moon. To this union were born seven children, one son and six daughters. His wife and two daughters preceded him to the Great Beyond. In 1862 he enlisted in the Ohio infantry and served in the Union army during the Civil war, at the close of which he moved with his family to Iowa, where he resided for seventeen years. He came to Madison county, Nebraska, in 1882, locating on a farm five miles south of Battle Creek. In 1891 he moved to town, where he made his home until death. He was a member of the Christian church but united with the Battle Creek Baptist church in 1900. ----Deceased is survived by five children, John E., Maggie and Martha Dennis of Battle Creek, Mrs. Flora Anderson of Colorado, and Mrs. Jacox of Thurman, Neb. All were present at the funeral.
