Description	:	Elijah Young Turpin was born on a farm near Shenandoah, September 3, 1877, and departed this life at Des Moines, on Saturday, March 5, 1949, at the age of 71 years, 6 months and 2 days. The early years of his life were spent on the home place near Shenandoah. There he was educated in the rural schools of Page county, and there he grew to young manhood. Read More	Elijah Young Turpin was born on a farm near Shenandoah, September 3, 1877, and departed this life at Des Moines, on Saturday, March 5, 1949, at the age of 71 years, 6 months and 2 days. The early years of his life were spent on the home place near Shenandoah. There he was educated in the rural schools of Page county, and there he grew to young manhood. In 1902, he was united in marriage with Miss Millie Osbourne, daughter of Rev and Mrs Eli Osbourne. To this union, two daughters were born, Mrs Cecil Gustin of Des Moines, and Mrs Paul Borsky of Omaha, Nebr. After spending a few years in Shenandoah, they moved to Manila, in Crawford county, Iowa. There Mr Turpin was well known as a carpenter and general contractor. In later years, he purchased a garage business. After he suffered a sudden paralytic stroke, about six and a half years ago, he and his wife moved to New Market. Later they moved to Clarinda, but as his condition grew progressively worse, he was taken to a nursing home in Des Moines. At the time of his passing, he was in the home of his daughter, Mrs Cecil Gustin of Des Moines. During earlier years, Mr Turpin was converted and joined the fellowship of the First Baptist church at Shenandoah. During the years of extreme illness, he found much help and strength through the radio ministry of Dr Charles E. Fuller of the Old Fashioned Revival Hour and others. He is survived by his wife, Mrs Millie Turpin of Des Moines, one brother, William Turpin of Wichita, Kans, one sister, Mrs Earla Stevenson of Waverly, Kans, two daughters, Mrs Cecil Gustin of Des Moines and Mrs Paul Borsky of Omaha, Nebr, and two grandsons, Wayne Cecil Gustin and Allen Ellsworth Gustin, both of Des Moines. The Rev Arthur Marston was in charge of the funeral services, held March 8 at the Walker funeral home. Miss Aletha Hutchings accompanied Rev Marston, soloist.
