The Sac Sun - Thursday , September 17th, 1908 - Mrs Eliza Hunziker, wife of Fred Hunziker, of Coon Valley township died on Wednesday evening, Sept 9, 1908 at the hospital in Carroll after a surgical operation from which she failed to rally. The remains were taken overland from Carroll to the late house of the decedent and the funeral was held in St Peters German Lutheran church in Coon Valley township on Saturday afternoon. The burial took place in the cemetery beside the church. Mrs Hunzikers maiden name was Eliza Claus. She was born April 19, 1861 in Waldie, Canton Argau, Switzerland. She married to Fred Hunziker in 1881 and in August of the same year she came with him to America making their home first in LaSalle county, IL. In 1898 they came to Coon Valley township, Sac county. Five years later they moved to Minnesota whence they returned last spring. Mrs Hunziker was the mother of 9 children, all of whom are living at home at present namely: Fred, Clara (wife of Matt Brown), Walter, Rosa, Susan, Adolph, Oscar, Elmer, and Esther. There are also two children by a previous marriage of her husband, and to these she was a faithful mother. They are Emil of Springfield, MO and Mary, wife of Herman Oldenburg, of Streator, IL. Mr Hunziker was a member of the German Lutheran church and a consistent Christian, well beloved in the community. She had been in poor health about a year but her death was wholly unexpected as the operation to which she submitted was not supposed to be of a serious nature. Mrs Elizabeth Hunziker and her daughter, Mrs Eliza Roth of Minooka, IL mother and sister of Mr Hunziker, and his niece, Miss Ella Trentel of Davenport, Iowa came to attend the funeral.
