Alden Times - December 24, 1936 - Mrs Elise Klein, nee Rehm, was born at Soutra, in the province of Hessia, Germany, on September 17, 1863, and passed on to the reward of her faith on December 20, 1936, at the age of 73 years, 3 months and 3 days. She was the oldest of the seven children of Martin and Dorthea Bauerhen Rehm. In the year 1881 in her eighteenth year, she emigrated to America together with her parents and the rest of the family and settled in Hardin county, near Iowa Falls, and later moved into the vicinity of Alden. In 1891 she joined Mr. Niklaus Klein in holy wedlock and for 45 years they walked life's pathway together, sharing joy and sorrow. They began farming northeast of Iowa Falls where they visited for a period of six years, after which they moved to a farm southwest of Alden which they purchased in 1897. They continued to reside there until 1924, when they moved into Alden. After residing here for over twelve years Mrs. Klein noticed that her health was failing and doctors advised her to submit to an operation in Marshalltown from which she really never fully recovered. She continued with no alarming signs of failing health except some bronchitis trouble, until Sunday morning, December 20, when her condition grew serious and her children were called home. By 5 o'clock in the afternoon she had grown so feeble that she peacefully drew her last fleeting breath and the soul departed from her aortal body to be with her Lord, whom she loved and trusted and served. Mr. and Mrs. Klein were the parents of four children, Hulda, now wife of Missionary A.F. Meyer of Khariar State, India, who had arrived on furlough two months ago; Oscar of Alden and Des Moines; Anita, now Mrs. C.H. Young of Columbia University, New York City; and Christina, now Mrs. J.E. Miller of Decatur, Illinois, a11 of whom were here for the funeral. Mourning for Mrs Klein and left to cherish her loving memory are her husband, and four children, one daughter-in-law, three sons-in-law; seven grandchildren; one sister and four brothers: Mrs. Phillip Bratzel and Ludwig Rehm of Hebron, North Dakota; Fred Rehm of Kingsley; and Henry and Adam Rehm of Alden, also a host of friends. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Evangelical church here, where she had been an ardent worker in the Lord's vineyard, and were in charge of the pastor, Rev. Fred Dollefeld. Interment was in the Alden Cemetery.
