Description	:	Mr. Elisha C. Doane, one of the town's most highly respected citizens, died at his home on Washington street, yesterday morning, after a few hours illness. Wednesday morning he went to Boston on business and while walking through Portland street on his way to the station in the afternoon to take the train for Marblehead, he was suddenly seized with an ill turn and fell to the sidewalk. Read More	Mr. Elisha C. Doane, one of the town's most highly respected citizens, died at his home on Washington street, yesterday morning, after a few hours illness. Wednesday morning he went to Boston on business and while walking through Portland street on his way to the station in the afternoon to take the train for Marblehead, he was suddenly seized with an ill turn and fell to the sidewalk. Fortunately, a physician was near and assisted Mr. Doane to the station and helped him onto the train. Mr. Doane was not unconscious and arrived in town on the train due here about quarter of seven and was conveyed from the depot to his home in one of 'Eustis depot carriages'. Dr. Devereaux was called but not being at home Dr. Sanborn was summoned. After Dr. Sanborn arrived, he immediately sent for Drs. Hall and Greenwood and Dr. Devereaux shortly afterwards came also. The services of these four doctors with the aid of oxygen were unable to save Mr. Doane's life and he passed away about half past two o'clock yesterday morning. Mr. Doane was a native of Orleans, Mass., and was fifty three years of age. He came to Marblehead about thirty five years ago. In his younger days he learned the trade of tinsmith and plumbing with his uncle, Mr. Benjamin Cole, who was in that business, and August 11, 1881, Mr. Doane started in business for himself at the store where he was located at the time of his death. In this business he was very successful. He was elected a director of the National Grand Bank this week, was a member of the Corinthian Yacht Club and a member of the Standing Committee of the Universal Church. A widow and two sons, Mr. Louis Doane and Mrs. Ernest Doane survive him. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2.30 o'clock.
