Following a life of marked industry. Mr. Roark, due to advancing years, removed his family to Central City last March. Despite his infirmities, the urge for activity made a life of ease distasteful and he longed to return to work about the farm. Persevering and industrious, it is to such men as Mr. Roark that Merrick County is indebted for the present state of development. Elisha Henry Roark was born July 19, 1861 to Elisha and Nancy Roark in Taylor County near Cambellsville, Kentucky. He passed away at his home in this city November 6, 1931 at the age of 70 years, 3 months and 17 days. He was united in marriage to Eliza F. Warren on June 20th, 1885. To this union seven children were born, 5 girls and two boys – Charles E. Roark, Arthur H. Roark, Mrs. Emily Daniels, Mrs. Hazel Fogland and Miss Vivian Roark of this city, and Mrs. Myrna B. Yenney of Grand Island. In the year 1888, the family moved to this section of the country from Kentucky, first locating on a farm five miles north of Central City. Five years later, they removed to the Paro farm five miles east of this city where they resided for a period of thirty-seven years. This past March, they moved to town. Mr. Roark leaves to mourn his loss besides his wife and children, one brother Geo. B. Roark of Belgrade, seventeen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, many other relatives and host of friends. Funeral services were held from the late home at 2:30 o'clock p.m. Sunday, November 8, 1931. Mrs. Stanley Bice, granddaughter of the deceased and Miss Helen Day sang two comforting hymns – "I Need Thee Every Hour" and "Sometime We Will Understand." The pall bearers were old neighbors of the deceased – Elmer Jewell, Frank Asheford, August Holm, George Reeves, Charles Reeves, and Wayne Reeves. The weatlth of beautiful flowers bespoke their silent message of esteem to the life that had departed. Flower girls were Mrs. Stanley Bice, Misses Helen Day, Stella McGregor and Opal Jewell. The deceased had taken a deep interest in the I.O.O.F. lodge of which order he had been a member for twenty-seven years. Brother Odd Fellows attended the service in a body, and conducted the impressive service at the grave. Internment was at the Central City Cemetery. Out-of-town relatives present for the last sad rites were: Mrs. and Mrs. A.H. Yenney and children, Mrs. and Mrs. Fred Merithew and Mrs. Hazel Fogland of Grand Island, Geo. Roark and family of Belgrade, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Eastes of Fullerton, Cody, Paul and Walter Roark of Belgrade, Harvey Roark of Chapman and Miss Hattie Reeves of Grand Island.
