Deceased came to Iowa in 1849 with her parents, John and Sarah Nicholson, settling on a farm near Salem and has been a resident of Henry county ever since-63 years. Was united in marriage to Joseph P. Kerr, Oct. 26, 1862, who departed this life Nov. 19, 1890. To this union were born eight children, seven sons and one daughter; Andrew A., deceased; Sarah I. Turnbull, Forest Grove, Oregon; John C. Haines, Oregon; Dick, Keldron, S. Dakota; Charlie M,. Champion, Alta, Canada; Ira N., Baker City, Oregon; Leander B., and Mahlon A., Salem. There were five brothers and two sisters, all deceased except Jonathan of Clayton, Kan., and Mrs. Martha Young of Mt. Pleasant. She leaves twelve grandchildren and five great- grandchildren. Deceased joined the M. E. church in early childhood and through all these years lived a consistent Christian life, loyal to all church beneficiaries and ever ready to assist in all thing pertaining to the uplift of humanity, being of a charitable disposition, she reared her own monument in the hearts of those who knew her. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church, Monday, April 1, at 2 o'clock p. m., conducted by the pastor, Rev. H. C. Druse. Interment in the Friends cemetery. He bids them rest for a season, For the pathway has grown too steep, And folded away in green pastures He giveth His loved ones sleep." "Weep not that their toil is over, Weep not that their race is run. God grant we may rest as sweetly, When, like theirs, our work is done. Till then we would yield with gladness Our loved ones to him to keep, And rejoice in the sweet assurance, He giveth His loved ones sleep."
