Read More	Pioneer Matron Called By Death Mrs. Eliza Cornelia Elliott, 74 Years of Age Passed Away Last Friday Another loved and respected pioneer matron of Powell County has journeyed over the last long trail. Mrs. Eliza Cornelia Elliott, wife of Col. Thomas Elliott answered summons last Friday morning at her home in this city. The deceased had been in rather poor health for several months, but about six weeks ago she was taken with pneumonia, which left her in a weakened condition and a heart affliction developed which rapidly shortened her days. The deceased was born in Baraboo, Wis., and was 74 years of age the 9th of last May. On November 6, 1870, she was united in marriage to Thomas Elliott at her home in Baraboo, Wis. Immediately after the wedding festivities she and her husband embarked for Montana, settling in the Deer Lodge valley. They engaged in ranching on the upper Dempsey Creek and prospered. No ranch in the valley was better known for its warm-hearted hospitality. Here they resided until about three years ago when they sold the property and retired from active life, making this city their home. Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her death, two sons, Thomas Elliott, Jr. and Yancy Elliott of this city and a daughter, Mrs. D.H. Morgan of Anaconda. Two years ago last month, Mr. and Mrs. Elliott went back to their old home in Baraboo, Wis., arriving there the day before their 50th wedding anniversary. They arrived unnanounced but it did not take long for her sister, assisted by nieces and nephews, to get together all of the relatives and old time friends and a most enjoyable celebration of their golden wedding was observed. So pleasant and so happy were all, that it filled the hearts of Mr. and Mrs. Elliott with joy and it has been a source of pleasure for them to recall the many pleasing incidents of that celebration. Possessing a happy and cheerful disposition from childhood all through the years of her active life, even up to the very end, the deceased took a kindly interest in persons and life generally. During her last illness she was anxious to greet and see her old time friends. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon from St. James Episcopal church with the rector, Rev. W.J. Attwood, officiating.Friends from far and near, who had known and loved Mrs. Elliott attended, and all of the relatives in Montana were present as follows: Col. Thomas Elliott, husband of the deceased, Thomas Jr., Yancy Elliott and two children, Thomas and June Elliott; a daughter, Mrs. D.H. Morgan of Anaconda and three children, Mary, Elliott, and Deane, and the youngest son, Tolly Elliott. The pall bearers were Frank Conley, William Coleman, Joseph Quinlan, R.D. Larabie, Joseph Whitworth and C.J. Kading. The honorary pallbearers were members of the Knights of Pythias lodge of this city. Interment was in the Hillcrest cemetery.
