The community was saddened last Sunday afternoon to learn that Mrs. Eliza Utterback had passed away at her home in East Whiting. Eliza Ellen Cassady was born in Paynesville, Ohio, December 13, 1856. With her mother and family they came to Whiting in the fall of 1868. She was married December 8, 1883 to M.O. Utterback. The community was saddened last Sunday afternoon to learn that Mrs. Eliza Utterback had passed away at her home in East Whiting. Eliza Ellen Cassady was born in Paynesville, Ohio, December 13, 1856. With her mother and family they came to Whiting in the fall of 1868. She was married December 8, 1883 to M.O. Utterback. To this union were born two children, Julia Evelyn and Laurence Earl, both of whom were with her during the last hours of her life. She is also survived by three brothers, E.M. Cassady and J.H. Cassady of Whiting, and C.M. Cassady of Sioux City, and a sister, Mrs. W.A. Koon of Sioux City. She united with the Congregational church of Whiting, during the pastorate of Rev. G.H. Croker, twenty five years ago. For many years Mrs. Utterback has been an invalid, thus being unable to participate actively in the church and social life of the community. Patiently and lovingly she reserved to the last her feeble strength for the comfort of the children in the home. Funeral services were held in the home on Wednesday afternoon and were conducted by the Rev. G.F. Barsalon and the Rev. G H. Croker.
