Born September 7, 1913 at Fletcher's Ridge in Buchanan County, she was the daughter of the late Balford and Darcus Jane (Onsbey) Fletcher. She relocated to northern Virginia in 1941. She worked with the torpedo station with the Department of the Navy for several years and was later transferred to Washington, D.C. to work for the Department of the Army, which she retired from in 1974 following 30 years of service.
