Description	:	On Saturday morning, January 14 this community was shocked to learn of the death of Mrs. Jason Nichols, which had occurred the night before Mrs. Nichols had been in quite pour health for a number of years, but for two or three days had been in much better health and spirits than for some time before. Medical aid was hastily sum- moned but before it could reach her her spirit had taken its flight to try the realities of that other world for which she had long been living in a way to prepare herself for. The de ceased had been a resident of Oelwein for a number of years and was highly respected by all who had formed her acquaintance. Her maiden name was Eliza Gibbert. She was born in St. Lawrence county, New York, Decembcr 25, 1845 being therefore, at the time of her death, a little over 68 years of age. She gave her life and happiness into the keeping of Jason Nichols on June 18, 1853, and for nearly forty years they had journeyed through life's sunshine and shadows together, as man and wife. She experienced religion in 1859, herself and husband uniting with the Virgil, Illinois, Free Baptist church, they having moved from New York to the latter state. She and her husband moved from Illinois to Iowa in 1861. She was an affectionate wife and loving mother, and a consistent member of the church of her choice and an earnest Christian worker. She leaves a husband, two daughters, four grandchildren and a large circle of friends to mourn her sudden and unexpected death. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at one o'clock in the Free Baptist church, being conducted by her pastor, Rev. U. T. Clark, assisted by Rev. Newcomer, of Cedar Rapids. The text used for the occasion was from Revelation 14th chapter and 13th verse. The remains were interred in the cemetery here.
