Dunn, Dies Suddenly Mrs Eliza Dunn, the widow of William Dunn, formerly of this city, but now of Chicago and president of the Cleveland Baseball Association, died suddenly at 9:45 Wednesday evening at her home in the Dunn settlement in Liberty township. Mrs Dunn, who was one of the pioneer women of that part of the county, had been in poor health for two years. She suffered with rheumatism but the immediate cause of her death was heart disease. Mrs Dunn's maiden name was Eliza Handley. She was born in County Longford, Ireland, May 12, 1836. When she was 13 years of age she came to the United States with an aunt. They settled at Cincinnati where she was married to Thomas Claffrey. Mr and Mrs Claffey came to Iowa City where the former died. They were the parents of five children, two sons and three daughters. They are John Claffey, of Liberty township; Thomas Claffey, Mankato, Minn.; Sister Anastasia, Hastings, Neb.; Mrs Emma Murphy, Iowa City and Mrs Mollie Haddock, of Liberty township. Mrs Claffey was married to William Dunn at Iowa City, Oct. 3, 1863. Soon after their marriage they moved to Liberty township where Mr Dunn died Feb 20, 1910. Nine children were born of this marriage, eight of whom are living. A son, William Jr died when he was a small child. The surviving children are James C Dunn, Chicago; Henry, Charles and Misses Margaret and Lucy Dunn and Mrs Amy Donnelly, Liberty township; Mrs Charles Haddock, Rhodes and Mrs August F Larson, of near Liscomb. Fourteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren also survive Mrs Dunn. Mrs Dunn was a membr of St John's Catholic church of Liberty township. The funeral will be held at the church Saturday morning at 10 o'clock and burial will be in the church cemetery. Evening Times-Republican, Marshalltown, Iowa, Thursday, June 27, 1918
