The Journal joins legions of friends in mourning the passing of a good mother and in ex-affectionate sympathey to her children who mourn a great loss. Eliza Jane Spaulding was the daughter of John and Nancy Spaulding. She was born near Calamus, in Clinton Co., Iowa Sept 23, 1855, and had reached the age of 81 years, 6 months and 23 days when she passed from this life April 16, 1937, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. James Gotter of Scranton, Iowa. She grew to womanhood in the county of her birth. On July 1st, 1875, she was united in marriage to Peter A. Cameron. To this union three sons and three daughters were born. The surviving ones are: Mrs. James Gotter, Mrs. Frank Goodrich, Mrs. Alva Madison and J.F. Cameron, all of Scranton, Iowa. Two sons preceded her, James W. and Palmer A. on March 30, 1925, at the age of 29 years. The husband and father departed from this life June 9, 1919. Besides the surviving ones named, there are 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Mrs. Cameron was of a family of 10 children. Three brothers and four sisters survive her. She came of pioneer stock and was herself a pioneer, knowing the hardships of an earlier day. Five years following her marriage the family came to Greene County where she continued to reside until the time of her death. Their active years were spent at the vocation of farming. "Grandma" Cameron as she was familiarly known in her large circle of friends, was indeed a friend to all. She found much joy in the doing of things for others, thinking first of the comfort of those about her. She was deeply appreciate of all that was done for her, especially the ministrations of love during her declining years. For fifty years, she was a member of the church of Christ in which she retained her membership until the summons to a higher life came. Lives like hers do not merely happen. They are designed of careful living, high thinking and devotion to one's God and fellow men. Many are the friends of Scranton and community who unite with her loved ones mourning her passing. The funeral service was held from the Scranton Church of Christ, Sunday April 18th at 2:30 o'clock. The pastor of the church, Rev. Charles S. Macy was in charge. Roberta Brown and Mrs. Wilber Peterson sang, accompanied at the piano by Twila Macy. Interment was made in the Scranton cemetery by the following pallbearers: Earnest Madison, Glen Frease, Clarence Gotter, William Hoyt, Lowell Spaulding and Clifford Spaulding. obit/ Newspaper probably Scranton Journal - only Journal mentioned in obit. ...........................................
