The obituary of the mother and other articles has the sister Harriet McMillan Phillips and two of Clay’s (her brother) children going from Council Grove to Scott City to the home of Clay to attend the funeral of Martha Kemper McMillian. Martha lived with him. Robert McMillan (b 1802) had several wives and at least 17 children! Between 1827 and 1830, Robert McMillin moved from Kentucky to Edgar Co., Illinois where he lived for many years mostly in Paris Township, before removing to Kansas probably between 1866 and 1870. With wife Nancy Winning (b about 1800 in Kentucky, m 15 Jun 1824 in Clark Co., Kentucky, d before 1840) he had six children: *James Winning McMillan, Robert McMillan Jr. (technically the third) near whom he is buried, another child whose name I have not discovered, John W McMillan, Mary Jane McMillan, and Henry F. McMillan. Robert married his next wife, Nancy Ann Mays (b 1805) on 15 Aug. 1840 (in Edgar Co., Illinois) and together they had two children: Alexander W. McMillan and Edward B. McMillan. His next wife was Martha E. Kemper (b about 1826 in Virginia) and they married 9 Jul. 1847 in Edgar Co., Illinois. Together they had nine children between about 1847 and 1866 in Illinois. They were: Nancy Eilene C. McMillan, Susan L. McMillan, Winfield Scott McMillan, Salina L. McMillan, Juda L. McMillan, Eliza McMillan, Harriet McMillan, Clay McMillan, and Grant McMillan. Martha was about 24 years younger than Robert. The last location I found for her was in Scott City, KS. She was age 84 and was living with son Clay and his wife. I found Clay is buried in Greenwood Cemetery in Council Grove, Kansas. I have not been successful in locating where Martha is buried. As you can see his children’s dates of birth vary greatly with the oldest James Winning McMillan being born in 1825. He is marked a famous person from the Civil War. His youngest child was Grant (born about 1866). From 1825 to 1866 he fathered 17 children with 3 wives. It is easy to see why someone thought Robert Jr. (technically the III) who was born in 1927 was her father as he was a lot older that she was.
