She had not been in good health all summer and three or four weeks ago suffered a stroke which was followed by other strokes culminating in her death. The funeral was held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon from the home and at 2:30 from the Associated Church. The services were conducted by Rev. J. W. Cabbage of Peterson, Iowa, a former pastor of Mt. Joy church in Eagle Township where Mrs. Blunt resided for so many years. He was assisted by Rev. Edwin Booth Jr., pastor of the Associated Churches. Interment was made in Grace Hill Cemetery. Seventy-three years ago Mrs. Blunt was born near the headwaters of the Rappanhannock in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia and was laid away Tuesday in her last long sleep in the bosom of the western prairie. In her lifetime of nearly three-quarters of a century there were many remarkable changes. She came to Iowa and in fact to Sioux County in an early day. She experienced all the vicissitudes of pioneering and saw the beginnings of the institution we cherish most highly. She made her contribution to their establishment in our midst and lived to enjoy the fruition of hopes and labors. In her own family, in church and in community, her interest and her service were alike unflagging. Eliza Melissa Bader was born July 30, 1852, at McGaheysville, in Rockingham county, Virginia. When she was three years of age her father's family came to Jackson County, Iowa, where at Wright's Corners, near the present city of Maquoketa, her girlhood was spent. Here nearly fifty years ago, on May 3, 1876, she was wedded to Robert Blunt. Here her two daughters, Mrs. Mae Murley and Miss Minnie A. Blunt, were born. Here in 1877 she became a Christian and uniting with the church, began the steadfast Christian life that is alike a joyous remembrance and an inspiration now that she has gone from us. In April, 1881, the Blunt family left Jackson county and in company with her father's family came to Sioux County to assist in building up another new country. They made their home on the virgin prairie, breaking out the farm in Eagle Township still known as the Robert Blunt farm. Here the family resided for nineteen years, the years when schools and churches were being founded, roads and bridges and homes built, and to all these activities Mrs. Blunt brought ready and cheerful and helpful co-operation. In 1904 the family moved to Hawarden and they have since resided here. In a large and precious circle of friends and neighbors the sunset years of life have been spent. The interests of her home, her church and her community have been her interests. She will be lovingly remembered and appreciated as a wife, and mother, as a church worker and friend. In her own household her death was the first. Her husband and two daughters survive. Of her father's family only two remain, Mrs. I.L. Wood and O.A. Bader, both of Hawarden.
